Self-introduction letter
Subject: Self-introduction letter
Dear Professor Mitchelle,
I am currently studying
Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering as a year 1 student from your Effective
Communication Class. I graduated from Temasek Polytechnic with a Diploma of
Green Building and Sustainability where I implement sustainable methods on buildings
to help achieve better energy-saving and to attain better green mark
certification. I have an interest in being a Sustainable Building Consultant.
One of my strengths in
communication is knowing which tone of voice I need to use for different situations.
I think that knowing what to say and how to say is important to reduce
misunderstanding between you and your audience. My intern allowed me to put my
strength to good use as I must communicate with clients as well as colleagues
almost every other day and to make sure my client is comfortable with me
without being unprofessional.
One of my weaknesses in
communication is the inability to speak confidently regardless of the size of
the crowd. I feel that I do not have the confidence nor the ability to stand in
front of people and speak. This would become an issue as I must present my work
to my peers and colleagues in the future. One of the key examples would be
going for an interview for my internship as it was one of my top choices for
the company I wanted. Even though I have prepared myself with all the necessary
details, I still did not manage to get my key points across, and I spoke with
low confidence which resulted in me stumbling over my words. Sadly, I missed
the opportunity to intern there.
For this module, I have 2
specific goals in mind and firstly, it is to build up my confidence to speak to
people, as I feel that confidence is key to starting out. It will help me build
my foundation be it in presenting or general communication. Secondly is to
actively participate in class to interact with people from all walks of life as
this will widen my knowledge and learn to work with different people.
I think what sets me apart from
the others is I can easily adapt to different situations and be open-minded. I
like to be open to people’s ideas and give positive feedback; I am also an
active listener. All this has helped me with all the different projects I have
done including my internship and has built me into what I have become.
Yours Sincerely,
Jing Long
At the first paragraph, you don't state what SIE course you are in, either land or building services.
ReplyDeleteOverall, it is comfortable for me to read through your self-introduction.
Introduction is very clear & straight to the point.
ReplyDeleteYou showed a clear weakness & strength and I'm loving it because you're giving your own personal experience.
Overall, I'm interested & enjoyed in reading your self-introduction. You have good topic sentence too. However, I would like to know why you are interested in becoming a Sustainable Building Consultant :) Maybe you can explain a little bit more?
